Visit Peaks holiday cottages are ready to go!

We are delighted to have achieved the Visit Britain Good to Go quality standard for re-opening on 4 July.  We have been working hard behind the scenes getting the cottages ready and whilst we have had to make some changes we have also been making sure that your holiday will be a safe one.

Our cleaning protocols are compliant with guidance and our housekeepers are now making the final touches and spring cleans before we re-open.  We have put lots of information for guests online and will continue to give guests as much help as we can to make the holiday one to remember.  Everyone that books will be sent our new Out and About information, which we are constantly updating so you will have at your fingertips a handy guide to safer walks, attractions that are open and which pubs are open or doing takeaways.

We are mostly full for the summer but things are quite fluid at the moment so if you’d like to be put on a waiting list for July and August dates we can do that.  Some groups are still making decisions about their holidays and we understand if people do not feel that the time is right to travel.  So there may well be a last-minute cancellation and the best place to hear about that is on social media.  Follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Our only availability currently for July and August is four nights from 4 July at Riverside House.  If you are a family group or in two social households we would love to welcome you.  There’s £100 off this short break.

For those of you that are not feeling confident about travelling abroad we can provide holidays throughout the year and have updated our website prices into 2021 with no price increases.   Visit our websites for further details of availability.

We wish all our guests well and safe during these difficult times.

Does this glorious weather make you think about summer holidays? The current heatwave in the UK is getting us all in holiday mood.  The sun is out in the Peak District too.  Lovely Dovedale above in the picture reaching 30 degrees!

There's plenty of things going on in this summer in the Peak District; here's a hightlight or two.

Heights of Abraham - take the cable car to the top of the Heights for great views over Matlock and the Derwent Valley.  There are caves and woodland trails to discover and if the young ones still have energy two adventure playgrounds.  The underground mining caverns are explored by torchlight to get a feel of how things really were. There is a restaurant and bar at the top with spectacular views.  And why not finish off the day with a trip to Matlock Bath and some traditional fish and chips? Dogs travel free on the cable cars and there are 60 acres of estate to explore with your four-legged friends.

Summer Nights Festival July - Sept - outdoor movie screenings are taking place in lovely heritage locations during the summer.  Bring a picnic and enjoy a film in beautiful surroundings.
Calke Abbey - Pretty Woman - 2 Aug and The Greatest Showman - 3 Aug
Hardwick Hall - The Greatest Showman - 17 Aug and Dirty Dancing - 18 Aug

Mason Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site - experience life in an 18th Century Mill that was designed by Sir Richard Arkwright in 1783. Feel what life would have been like with the noise of the looms and smell of the textiles all recreated during your visit.  This working museum is one of the finest surving and best preserved of its kind.  There's also a shopping village and English textiles are on sale and other traditional crafted items.  Enjoy lovely tearooms overlooking the river Derwent.

Chatsworth Country Fair - 31 Aug - 2 Sept - this annual country fair is a fabulous outdoor event which includes JCB Dancing Diggers, Household Cavalry Musical Ride, a cooking theatre and fine food village.  Opportunities to try your hand at country sports and crafts too.

Derbyshire Well Dressings - the tradition of dressing wells with flowers, petals and seeds continues throughout the summer.
Stoney Middleton - 21 - 30 July
Bonsall - 28 July - 3 Aug
Great Hucklow - 9 - 15 Aug
Foolow - 24 Aug - 1 Sept
Eyam - 25 Aug - 1 Sept

Don't leave your best friend at home or pay for expensive kennels.

We love having dogs come to stay at our holiday cottages, and we welcome up to five at any one time.

Don't take our word for it, take a look at the picture, these are three guests who came to stay at Valley View holiday cottage in August.  They loved the walks along the river Dove, just one of the highlights.  Others include safe and secure gardens with outdoor space, log fires with limitless logs for a cosy sleep after a long walk and lots of local pubs and attractions that are dog friendly.

Some of our favourites include the Crich Tramway Museum, which allows dogs on the site, in the trams and there are lovely walks such as the Woodland walk.

Or Peveril Castle above the village of Castleton gives stunning views and you and your dog will appreciate visiting this National Trust property as part of the daily dog walk (it is a bit steep!).  Castleton also has dog friendly pubs for much needed refreshments afterwards.

How about Chatsworth House for an outdoors visit with your dog.  Dogs are allowed in the gardens, sculpture areas, maze, waterworks areas and there are dog posts just outside the farm area and restaurant.  Assistance dogs are allowed in the house.

Some of our favourite dog friendly pubs include The Red Lion at Litton (a lovely town with a village green) and The Church Inn at Chelmorton.  Both these pubs are ideal for using as a base for walking in the Peak District.

Our holiday cottages in the Peak District will take up to five dogs so if there is a group of you we won't restrict you to one well behaved dog only as many other holiday cottages will do.

We take our own dog on holiday with us to the Peak District, so we want you to enjoy your holiday with your dog too!

There's no reason to leave your four-legged friend at home when going on a  holiday to the Peak District.

There are plenty of dog friendly attractions in the Peak District including Crich Tramway Village, which allows dogs on the site, in the trams and there are lovely walks in the grounds including the Woodland walk.

Peveril Castle above the village of Castleton gives stunning views and you and your dog will appreciate visiting this National Trust property as part of the daily dog walk (it is a bit steep!).  Castleton also has dog friendly pubs for much needed refreshments afterwards.

Chatsworth House is great for a day out with your dog.  Dogs are allowed in the gardens, sculpture areas, maze, waterworks areas and there are dog posts just outside the farm and restaurant.  Assistance dogs are allowed in the house.

Of course one of the delights of being in the Peak District are the walks.  One of our favourite dog friendly walks is The Monsal Trail, which is traffic free for 8 miles with cafes and the dog friendly Stable bar of the  Monsal Head hotel along the route.

Some of our favourite dog friendly pubs include The Red Lion at Litton (a lovely town with a village green) and The Church Inn at Chelmorton.  Both these pubs are ideal for using as a base for walking with your dog in the Peak District.

Our holiday cottages in the Peak District will take up to five dogs so if there is a group of you we won't restrict you to one well behaved dog only, as many other holiday cottages will do.

The holiday cottages are dog friendly with safe enclosed gardens, plenty of walks from the doorstep, with kitchen and hall flooring that is easy to wipe down and clean, lovely log fires (with fire guards) for relaxing next to after long walkies and we also supply out door taps for washing down your dogs and dog bowls.

We take our own dog on holiday with us to the Peak District, so we want you to enjoy your holiday with your dog too!
