Visit Peaks : Pubs, Restaurants, Food, Drink

The pub has been completely refurbished and there is a new landlady.  It all looks good and especially great seating areas at the front and in the garden now.  As of summer 2019 we haven't tried the food, but we are advised that booking is required for large groups.  The whole pub now appears to be dog friendly.

Hartington is within walking distance of  our Valley View holiday home and is a lovely walk north along the River Dove about two hours each way.

Biggin Hall - a lovely historical house dating from the seventeenth century.  There's a stunning restaurant, serving lunch and dinner and most ingredients are sourced from the Peak District.  Afternoon tea is served daily from 3-5 pm either in the dining room or if the weather allows in the garden.

Newton House tea rooms - local quality produce is sourced and with it's location a stones throw from the Tissington Trail this is an ideal spot for Afternoon Tea.  Options include a tradtional afternoon tea for £25 for two, deluxe afternoon tea £35 for two, as well as vegetarian afternoon tea and a chocolate indulgence afternoon tea.

Herberts tearooms - formerly The Old Coach House, located in the heart of Tissington Village this is a lovely setting.  Vintage crockery and a quirky decor with breakfast, lunch and cream teas all served.  Tissington is a lovely village to explore with a duck pond, shops and walks including the Tissington Trail.

There are plenty of cafes, tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and a deli in Ashbourne.  There is also a co-op, Sainsbury, M&S food store, Waitrose as well as a local market.

Another place that we’ve been going to for more than 20 years.  Set in the the charming valley of Dovedale with its’ own grounds and garden and the great news is that it now has new owners and has reopened recently (2014).

We would recommend walking from our Valley View self catering holiday house to The Izaak Walton as the walk takes you along the River Dove nearly all the way.  It will take about two hours each way, but it is reasonably flat and more experienced walkers might like to take the walk back via Thorpe Cloud and Bunster Hill.

You can enjoy stunning views of Thorpe Cloud and Bunster Hill from the garden in the summer and young children will enjoy racing around on the lawned area whilst adults can relax.  Afternoon teas are also offered and can be enjoyed on the lawns in summer months.

The food here is all prepared by hand using the best natural ingredients and cooked in small batches to retain a homemade character.  A huge selection of cheeses, handmade chocolates (from Belgium), as well as a range of starters, main courses, puddings and muesli made on the premises.  Selection hampers made to order for picnics or gifts.
