Visit Peaks : Pubs, Restaurants, Food, Drink
This has got to be our favourite pub in the Peak district! Great home cooked food, fabulous steak and kidney pie, lamb shank, home-made chips, choice of two roast dinners all day on Sunday, daily specials. We love the beer here too, and the landlady and resident labrador are very welcoming. Try to get here early at weekends and in holiday times as it can get busy and you might be disappointed. In good weather you can sit out at bar tables on the green and enjoy the watching the world go by! You can walk from Riverside House our holiday accommodation in Litton Mill along Tideswell Dale or up the steeper Litton Slack. Both walks should take no more than 45 minutes or less depending on fitness!

There is also the Litton village shop and PO (01298 872881), which serves hot drinks, homemade cake and snacks. You can sit outside and enjoy view across the green. Open 7 days 8.30 am to 11.30 am and 12 to 6 pm weekdays and 10 am to 4 pm weekends.
A very pleasant interior, set out well for different groups of diners and welcoming, friendly staff. The food is excellent as is the beer. Dogs are welcome in the tap room. This is Derbyshire Life's pub of the year for 2016, so it is well worth a visit. It is about 10 minutes off the Monsal Trail, so makes a good walk of about one hour each way from Riverside House holiday cottage.

Just off the Tissington Trail, which is a lovely traffic free walking or cycling trail and easily accessible from our holiday cottage, Valley View. A tastefully modernised version of a traditional country pub, complete with sheepskin fleeces, candles, log fire and industrial beams! A good menu and for vegetarians a good selection and we particularly love the burgers here and the best cappuccino ever! There are good beers, including craft beers and the whole of the pub is dog friendly. Bookings not taken, but the pub is large so we've never had a problem getting in.

We have been going to this pub for over 20 years and it is back on our list of favourites with lovely new owners. There are some lovely outdoor seating areas for the summer months and for a special occasion it is highly recommended. Ideal for birthdays and anniversaries, larger groups can hire rooms in the pub or the Coach House. Booking is a must.
Pub menu items include locally reared roast beef, roast leg of Derbyshire reared lamb, Dovedale blue and red oinion tartlet, Trio of Tissington Sausage and much, much more.
The best thing is that The George is only a 15 minute walk from our Dovedale holiday accommodation, Valley View (paved lane) and it’s downhill all the way back! We would recommend that you book a table for large groups for lunch and dinner as The George is very popular.
