Here's our very own Conor, enjoying a holiday in the Peak District at one of our holiday cottages. (The cottage in the picture is Valley View with stunning views over Dovedale).

Many holiday cottages will only accept one or two dogs at the most.  That's where we are different from the rest.

You know your dogs and pets deserve a holiday as much as you do and that's why our large self catering cottages accept up to five dogs at any one time.  So if you are on holiday with family members and friends you can all bring your four-legged friends along too.

There are walks galore from the holiday cottages.  At Valley View enjoy walks along the river Dove or the nearby Tissington Trail and at our other cottage, Riverside House, there's the river Wye and Monsal Trail right on the doorstep.

And just like you, your dogs will love snuggling up to our cosy log fires.  We don't stint on logs either, when you book with us you get an unlimited free supply of logs and kindling to use during your stay.

If you'd like more information on taking your dog on holiday with you, or details about our short break prices for 2018, get in touch now!

Many good citizens want to "do the right thing" when they go on holiday and there are many ways this could be defined.  As holiday cottage owners in the Peak District we are no exception.  Defining what "the right thing" for us is simple: we try our best to ensure our cottage is loved by our guests, that a stay with us does not impact unduly on the environment and that we find ways to support the local economy.

To "do the right thing" in the past we have:

  • given a high level of customer service, responding quickly, answering questions and meeting guests needs
  • making sure the holiday cottages are fully-equipped and stocked for a self catering break
  • added insulation and underfloor heating at Riverside House holiday cottage
  • encouraged recycling wherever possible
  • and supported our local economy be promoting the best services available from businesses right here in the Peak District

We feel that we can do even better and for this reason we are currently trialling a new approach by collaborating with a local company called www.SaucedHere.co.uk.  We think our collaborations will not only benefit our guests but reduce our environmental footprint and directly support local businesses.

SaucedHere is a new service in the Peak District run by Bakewell resident Luke Osborne.  It provides an alternative to an online supermarket delivery be allowing you to shop conveniently, locally and responsibly.  SaucedHere offers a full basked of products (nearly 1200 in total!) all hand sourced from approaching 35 of the area's top purveyors.  You can visit the SaucedHere website and select all of your shopping from the vast array of local producers in the same way you might do so with the national chains.  When you order with SaucedHere, Luke and his team will then visit each of the local shops involved, collect the items you have selected and bring them to our holiday cottages in one convenient delivery at a time that you choose.

Guests as well as local residents seem to love the service! It also has the added benefit of reducing the amout of miles your shopping takes to reach you as so many of the products are made right here in the Peak District.

Clearly the local economy benefits too as the areas' independent shops don't get overlooked by the convenience associated with placing an order with a national supermarket chain.

If you are staying with us we would encourage you to shop with SaucedHere and help us to "do the right thing" in our wonderful Peak District National Park.

Large self catering holiday cottages are ideal for family celebrations, special birthdays, anniversaries, reunions and groups of friends to holiday together.

When you book a large holiday cottage rental, you want to be sure that it is right for you and the group.

As holiday cottage owners we stay in our self catering cottages and use them with friends as our guests do.  That way we know what is needed to create the perfect self catering holiday cottage break.

We check the cupboards to make sure that there are plenty of glasses, so if you want to toast a special birthday or anniversary there's at least one glass each with spares.

We supply enough plates, bowls, mugs so that you can have a dishwasher load on with another whole set available for you to use.

There's plenty of information about the area, the walks, the pubs, restaurants, places to visit.   We can recommend places too for larger groups for dining out for special occasions and pub lunches.   We have contacts with a visiting spa and catering service for those really special group breaks.

For families and adults alike there are games galore, board games for all ages, table football, multi-games table, and at Riverside House a fully equipped games room including table tennis.  Wi fi is available at both cottages.

Both our holiday cottages have Sky Sports, BT Sports, Sky movies so there's never a chance to get bored, not matter what your interests.

And if the weather does turn inclement we provide an unlimited and free supply of logs and kindling so that you can keep dry and warm with a cosy glow.

We will be visiting again soon and making sure everything is in place for your group holiday cottage rental.  Let us know what things you'd like to see included to make the self catering break special?

There's an autumn chill in the air and the nights are drawing in.  But there's still plenty to love on a holiday cottage break away.

At both our holiday cottages, Riverside House and Valley View we have lovely log fires and what's more we provide an unlimited free supply of logs.  You can snuggle up to the log fire at any time of the day or evening!  After a long walk in the Peak District countryside there's nothing more welcoming than a warming log fire.

At Riverside house holiday cottage we also have underfloor heating in the kitchen and dining room, so you'd be even more warm and toasty! Both holiday cottages have been insulated too so although large they won't feel chilly.

If you are free to holiday outside of the school terms why not take a look at our mid-week deals for November and December and grab a cosy autumn bargain at our holiday cottages?

There's mid-week breaks at both Riverside House and Valley View holiday cottages, sleeping from 9 to 15 in four to six bedrooms.  At only £699 or £799 for four nights that's great value.  And don't forgot the logs for the log fire are completely free!

Visit Peaks holiday cottages, Valley View and Riverside House are popular with groups and friends taking breaks away in the lovely Peak District National Park.

The holiday cottages are ideal for time away with your friends and girlfriends and we can help make the time special too.

We have linked with an organic spa, My Personal Sanctuary to offer spa days at the holiday cottages.  The therapists bring their own treatment beds, all the towels, organic products and you can choose from a range of delightful relaxing treatments.

For an extra special birthday celebration with your girlfriends or friends why not book in a catered dinner party?  We have contacts with caterers who can organise a special meal or we have links to an Indian restaurant that will deliver a delicious curry!  And we can help organise wine tasting too!

A break away with your friends and girlfriends at our holiday cottages will include plenty of downtime; watching movies on the Sky movies channels in fabulous surround sound while snuggling up to the log fires with our unlimited free supply of logs.  There are board games galore too and at Riverside House a games room for further fun!

Both holiday cottages are ideal for striking out in the countryside and group walks together.  Riverside House is a stones throw from the traffic free Monsal Trail and Valley View a short 5 minute drive to the traffic free Tissington Trail.   And if you want high octane fun, Valley View is a 30 minute drive to Alton Towers.

Happy guests are what it is all about.  A good review on Trip Advisor can make all the difference between a booking or not.

Two of our most recent guests have been kind enough to review us on Trip Advsior for the holiday cottages.

'This is the 2nd year myself and a group of friends have stayed at Valley View.  The cottage is gorgeous and the location is so peaceful.  We stayed for 5 nights and could have quite happily stayed longer.  There are plenty of nice walks close by and a pub within 1 mile.  The owner and housekeeper are very friendly and accommodating.  I would highly recommend this cottage to groups of friends or families looking for a break in the Peak District'.

And a new guest review for Riverside House holiday cottage.

'If you want to the visit the heart of the Peak District you will not find a better place to stay than Riverside House. It's perfect for walking, cycling or just enjoying the history and scenery around the area.  Riverside House is by far the best place we have stayed in over the years and have already rebooked for next year.  Go there you won't be disspaointed'.

Holiday cottages live and die by their guest reviews and testimonials.  So many people these days are using Trip Advisor to book and plan their holidays too.

So it is vital as a holiday cottage owner to seek out reviews and use them on social media, websites and promotional material.  They can make the difference between a booking or not.

At Riverside House and Valley View holiday cottages, we get some lovely feedback and guests will often email with comments after they have stayed.

Many happy guests are happy to review us on Trip Advisor and here's the link to some of the lovely comments that we have received.

Here's a few snippets:

'We had a fantastic time at Valley View, we couldn't have wished for more.  The cottage itself is stunning, the countryside surrounding it is unspoilt and so peaceful, we will definitely be looking at coming back'.

'Just wanted to say thank you for another beautiful stay at Riverside House.  We loved the changes you have made.  The weather was also fantastic, altogether a lovely time was had by all.  Hopefully we will book again soon'.

Don't leave your best four-legged friends at home when you go on holiday.  Bring your dogs on holiday with you and all the family will enjoy a self-catering cottage break.

Holiday cottages are ideal for pet friendly holidays, especially when located in the lovely British countryside.  There's always plenty of walks and outside fun to be had.

At both our holiday cottages, Riverside House and Valley View, we welcome up to five dogs.

Some of the fun things to do at the holiday cottages include splashing about in the river; going on traffic free walks on either The Monsal Trail or the Tissington Trail; visiting some dog friendly attractions and pubs and of course relaxing in front of the log fire.

There really is no need for expensive kennel fees when you can bring your dogs with you.

Ask us about dog friendly attractions, walks and pubs that are near our holiday cottages.

Or take a look at our Top 10 Dog Friendly Guide to the Peak District.

Keep an eye for our 10 year anniversary celebrations this year.  We have plenty of ideas but if you'd like to suggest something please get in touch.

It's hard to believe that in May 2006 we welcomed our first guests to Riverside House holiday cottage.  It seems appropriate that 10 years on we are making some major improvements to the holiday cottage (read our blog below).

Since running our holiday cottages we have welcomed over 5,000 guests, had over 360 very happy dog visitors, helped our guests celebrate their own special birthdays, anniversaries and retirements and we've probably walked ourselves over 500 miles of Peak District footpaths.  I'm not telling you how many Peak District pubs we've visited!

We still love welcoming people to our holiday cottages at any time of the year.  So if you are yet to visit us what are you waiting for?

Get in touch, Wendy's waiting to hear from you.

If you are planning a weekend break or a longer break at a holiday cottage in the UK don't delay.  Dates are disappearing fast.

Our holiday cottages are great for larger groups or for families to holiday together.  Dogs and pets are welcome too.  Breaks for larger groups often take a bit more planning as more people are involved.  We suggest that you get the calendars and diaries out now and start earmarking those weekends.

And if you have a special birthday, anniversary or a retirement this year make sure that the dates you want don't get snapped up by someone else.

This is always a busy time for holiday cottage owners, so what are you waiting for?  Get in touch and plan that break away now!

A lot of guests bring their dogs to our holiday cottages - we welcome up to five dogs. Our dog travels with us when we visit our cottages and we've got a few tips to help the journey go well for you and your dog.

*  Check your dog is secure in the car, either use a dog seat belt harness or crate.

*  Make sure the dog crate is big enough for your dog to be able to stand, sit, turn around and lie down.

*  The dog crate must be secure so that it doesn't slide around in the car.

*  Remove all hazards from the dog crate and don't leave your dog on the lead when he is crated it could be a strangling hazard.

*  Bring along your dog's favourite blankie and dog toys for the journey.  Something familiar will make them feel safer.

*  Take some water, a dog bowl, and some snacks for your dog.

*  Make regular stops, especially if it is a long car journey.  Take your dog out of the car and let him have a walk on the lead.

*  We've found that our dog is a bit prone to motion sickness so we don't feed him a lot before the journey.  This really helps.

*  Never leave your dog alone in a parked car, especially when warm, but just don't do it anyway.

*  We also give our dog a really good walk before we start the journey, that way he is more relaxed and does quickly settle down.

It's starting to feel like Christmas at the holiday cottages now.  The trees are up and decorated and we have our Christmas tree in the village too at Litton Mill next to Riverside House.  This weekend I'll be visiting both holiday cottages to make sure everything is ready for our Christmas and New Year guests; topping up glasses, checking kitchen supplies generally, checking decor, making sure there are plenty of logs and kindling and just generally giving everything a once over.

We've already got bookings for Christmas 2016 at both holiday cottages for next year, but if you are looking for New Year 2016 these breaks are both available at Valley View and Riverside House.  And if you are thinking even further ahead we can take bookings for Christmas and New Year 2017 based on 2016 prices.

Or if you fancy something different we have teamed up with an Indian restaurant and catering service, Maazi Catering, who will deliver to the holiday cottages a wide choice of Indian buffets.

When you are staying in a holiday cottage rental over the autumn and winter months, you want to be sure that you will be cosy and snug. You can be assured that we will do our best to make your out of season stay as warm and homely as possible.

At both our holiday cottages we supply free, unlimited logs for the log fires.  We also include kindling and matches so you can get the fires burning quickly.  And rest assured every year we have the chimneys swept and checked so that they are in tip top condition.

We hope that by spending that bit extra on insulating our cottages to keep the cold out that our guests feel warm at all times.  The heating is included in the costs so there's no need to worry if there are younger or older family members to keep warm.  There is continual hot water too, so you don't need to worry if you feel like a bath after a long walk.

With the weather a bit colder and wetter outside, many guests like to cook in the holiday cottages enjoying family and friends meals together.  Both the kitchens at the holiday cottages are extremely well equipped with everything you need to cook large meals and we even have some cookery books available for inspiration.  We supply plenty of cutlery, pots, trays, glasses and even tins for cake baking if you get the urge!
