There's plenty going on this Easter in the Peak District.  We've put together a guide of a few of our selected highlights for families young and old.  So why not pop over to the Peak District this Easter and join in the fun?

  • There's Easter holiday fun at Calke Abbey. The Cadbury egg hunt in the meadow runs daily from 14-16 April 11 am to 3.30 pm. Pick up a map and follow the clues to the treasure at the end!  There are also nature-themed activities and lovely walks to enjoy for all the family.
  • Why not climb the towers of St Mary's and All Saints Churches in Chesterfield?  You'll get stunning views of the Crooked Spire and the town.  The tour lasts about 40 mins and do book in advance.
  • Loads of family fun at Conkers indoor and outdoor play and adventure in a national forest.  From 1 to 23 April there are various activities and events including a circus, Punch and Judy, sublime science, juggling, craft and ranger activities and and an Easter egg challenge.
  • At the Tropical Butterfly, Wildlife and Falconery Centre from 1 to 23 April there's an Easter Mad about Madagasgar theme.  You can meet species close up, take part in an Easter Egg hunt (Easter Sunday and Monday), enjoy tractor trailor rides and there are Easter bunnies and chicks to meet.

These are just a few of the Easter events going on for families in the Peak District.  We've picked a few that offer something a little bit different.  We hope that you enjoy them!  Happy Easter holidays!

With spring and Easter just around the corner, there's plenty of things to do in the Peak District in March.

Haddon Hall gardens re-open on 25 March and these really are well-worth a visit (any time of year).  There's also a special Easter celebration and family events too.

Chatsworth House re-opens on 19 March and there's plenty of Easter fun too!

If you love food then the Leek Food and Drink Festival is for you.  Held on 19 March, there will be plenty to sample!

On the foodie theme why not visit one of the many farmer's markets in the Peak District?  We love the Bakewell farmer's market held on the last Saturday in the month.

A great family day out over Easter is the Heights of Abraham.  Take a cable car ride and enjoy lots of family activities including; Easter egg hunt, make your own daffodil, Easter animals and see the 60,000 daffodils that will burst into flower.

And for the younger family members, Matlock Farm Park at Easter is ideal.  There's a special meet the Meerkat day, or maybe you'd like to see Mambu the gorilla, or be a pirate for the day on Easter Monday?

Looking for some great Peak District attractions this Easter for all the family?

Read about our top two attractions for a great day of family fun in the Peak District.

Matlock Farm Park - there are plenty of animals to see and feed including llamas, goats, turkeys, peacocks, cattle and sheep, as well as cuddly animals in the barn (chicks and bunnies), meerkat daily talks, and bottle-feeding the young lambs.  Why not watch a sheep or ferret race, go on a wallaby encounter or enjoy a short pony ride?  In addition to the animals there are playgrounds for differents ages of children and a go-carts trail.

Especially for Easter weekend on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday there are Easter egg hunts, crafts and games.

Crich Tramway Museum - step back in time and wait for the rumble of a vintage tram.  Visit the tea rooms, old fashioned sweet shop or ice cream parlour. Children can also let off steam in the Discovery Depot, borrow a back pack full of activities or enjoy fun workshops.

What's even better your four-legged friends can come along too.  Dogs are welcome in most parts of the Museum and they can even ride the trams!

So what's stopping you?  All the family can enjoy the Derbyshire Peak District this Easter weekend!
