Half term is nearly here and if you are planning a trip to the Peak District with the family there's plenty to do. Here's a selection of some of our family favourites.
At Matlock Bath every Saturday there are fireworks, which begin at 9 pm. The annual illuminations are also on running to 29 October. This is a spectacular display not to be missed. We suggest either arriving early as car parks get extremely busy or use the park and ride options.
Crich Tramway Village is a fabulous family day out. Over half term the whole site will be illuminated with the starlight special. All the family with love that. From Mon 24 to Wed 26 October there's a Harry Potter look-a-like theme and on Thurs 27 October it is super heroes day, so come dressed as your favourite! What's more there's a Christmas market on 29 and 30 October for early Christmas shopping ideas.
If you want to get the Halloween vibe going there's nowhere better than Alton Towers. A dis-used mine is being reopened at Altonville mine tours which will including chilling secrets in a very scary tour. There's a scare maze too and after dark two scare zones open in the park.
For a fascinating glimpse into our industrial heritage a visit to Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site is a must. From 23 to 30 Oct each mill will have its own story to tell set in a lovely backdrop. There's something for all the family here.
For an active family day out we highly recommend the Monsal Trail, either a traffic free walk or cycle ride (bike hire available along the route). In keeping with the spooky theme of Halloween the tunnels along the trail offer a creepy insight into the days of the railway and kids will love the experience of the dark and wet tunnels! Ideal for traffic free dog walks too.
If you are already planning for half-term 2017 be quick as our holiday cottages are booking up fast!
