Places to spot wildlife in the Peak District
The Vale of Edale is surrouned by the hills and moors of the Dark Peak and much of it is owned and managed by the National Trust. There is a wide variety of wildlife to be found there and it is possible to see merlin, grouse, olden plover, meadow pipit and curles and also mountain hares. In the valleys there are many ferns and lichens and on the ledges and crevices it is possible to see the nesting sites of ravens and peregrines.
The Vale of Edale is situated in the Hope Valley close to the town of Castleton. It has a station and more information can be obtained from the Moorland Visitor Centre.
