Farmers Shops and Markets
This site has a very useful list of all the farmer’s markets in Derbyshire with the dates and locations:
It is the winner of Farm Retailer of the Year 2009 and 2011 and Best On-farm Butchery 2009 at the FARMA awards. Chatsworth farm shop offers quality produce fresh from the estate, tenant farms, Derbyshire suppliers and small food producers. The awards recognises the highest level of customer service, staff knowledge and innovation together with a commitment to offering the very best in own and local produce.
Their traditional butchers will guide you through the vast array of meat, poultry and game. Delicious home-cooked meats and pies are available from the delicatessen counter, and their bakery provides wonderful fresh bread and cakes. We thoroughly recommend a visit as the produce is superb, if on the pricey side, but for a special treat or special occasion combine a visit to Chatsworth House with a visit to the Farm Shop.
Bakewell Farmer's Market is the second biggest farmers market in the UK and generally takes place on the last Saturday of every month, except for December, from 9am to 2pm. Its popularity has grown from strength to strength and is now regularly attracting more than 5000 visitors. It is so popular now that many of the 70 stallholders sell out before closing time, so get there early if you want to buy your cheese, beer, wine, meat, game and vegetables.
The market takes place undercover at the Agricultural Business Centre less than 2 minutes walk from the centre of Bakewell. There is ample parking adjacent to the farmer's market with very easy access for wheelchairs and prams. It's great to wander around the market, sample the wares and support local businesses, perhaps grab some lunch to take away. We visited this market last December and we can thoroughly recommend it, a vast array of foods and crafts.
It is a new £500,000 farm shop complex which has been launched in the Peak District to support the rural community, ramblers and tourists. It provides quality, local, handmade artisan products that you would not get in bigger supermarkets including breads, cakes and cheese from smaller businesses in and around Derbyshire.
Marsh Green Farm Shop is set within the idyllic surrounds of the Marsh Green Estate, which also provides their own reared English Longhorn Cattle grazing the 150 acres of grass-parkland.
The farm shop itself sells a wide range of products from their own and locally sourced meat and cheeses, freshly baked bread to hand made chocolates.
The “Rambler’s Rest” Café is the ideal place to rest those weary feet after a walk around the many footpaths and byways within Ashover Parish, or even a hard shopping session in the shop! With freshly made sandwiches, warm snacks and cakes too!
Finally their Agricultural Store offers animal feeds and equipment for the small holder and farming enthusiast.
The Peak District Dairy Farm Shop / Cafe is in the centre of Tidewsell village. All Peak District Dairy products are available at the Farm Shop including Milk, Cream, Butter, Another Nosey Cow! Farmhouse Yoghurts, Free Range Eggs & Real Dairy Ice Cream.
They also have a full range of quality English & Continental cheeses. There is an impressive selection of the best locally produced foods including Cocoadance chocolates, Irenes jams & marmalades, Field House Foods herbs & oils, Ibbottsons of Ashford pickled onions, Crips oven baked wheat & potato chips, National Forest spring water & Brookfield Bakery freshly baked bread & cakes daily.
The cafe seating area is upstairs where you can take time to relax and enjoy a light snack from their varied menu of freshly prepared foods. Or just have a drink of tea or coffee, even a real fruit smoothie or a milkshake made with our their own real dairy ice cream.
For guests staying at Riverside House, Tideswell is only a 5 minute drive or 40 minute walk from the property.
It is set in the beautiful Staffordshire countryside between Uttoxeter and Ashbourne. Situated in the old milking parlour which has been lovingly converted, you’ll find an abundance of fabulous local produce.
Try their home reared beef and other locally produced meats, poultry and game from the butchery. They also produce delicious breads and cakes, fresh fruit and vegetables, local and regional cheeses from the deli and a wide range of dairy products. In the café enjoy morning coffee, homemade light lunches, afternoon tea and cakes.
