Visit Peaks : Pubs, Restaurants, Food, Drink

We have been going to this pub for over 20 years and it has now had a makeover with new owners and some fantastic food.

There are some lovely outdoor seating areas for the summer months and at the back of the pub is a Farmer’s Shop selling locally produced food and products for a special evening in at our Dovedale holiday cottage, Valley View.

Pub menu items include locally reared roast beef, roast leg of Derbyshire reared lamb, Dovedale blue and red oinion tartlet, Trio of Tissington Sausage and much, much more.

The best thing is that The George is only a 15 minute walk from our Dovedale holiday accommodation, Valley View (paved lane) and it’s downhill all the way back!  We would recommend that you book a table for large groups for lunch and dinner as The George is very popular.

A great pitstop for walkers in Dovedale, located at the bottom of Millway Lane and a 2 minute stroll from our holiday accommodation, Valley View in Dovedale.  The café serves hot drinks, hot snacks, cold drinks, cakes, biscuits, postcards and more.

Another place that we’ve been going to for more than 20 years.  Set in the the charming valley of Dovedale with its’ own grounds and garden The Izaak Walton has the Dovedale Bar offering light snacks and informal meals as well as its two AA Rosette restaurant, perfect for a special occasion.

We would recommend walking from our Valley View self catering holiday house to The Izaak Walton as the walk takes you along the River Dove nearly all the way.  It will take about two hours each way, but it is reasonably flat and more experienced walkers might like to take the walk back via Thorpe Cloud and Bunster Hill.

You can enjoy stunning views of Thorpe Cloud and Bunster Hill from the garden in the summer and young children will enjoy racing around on the lawned area whilst adults can relax.  Afternoon teas are also offered and can be enjoyed on the lawns in summer months.

Located on the Ashbourne to Buxton Road this pub is a short 10 minute drive from our Dovedale holiday accommodation, Valley View and is great for families with an excellent outdoor play area.  The pub serves home made dishes using local ingredients and there is an exensive bar area and restaurant.

Situated 2 miles north of Ashbourne on the main Ashbourne to Buxton Road and approximately 10 minutes by car from our Valley View holiday accommodation, this pub is well worth a visit.  A refurbished 17th century pub with real ales and good value home cooked bar food.
